History Alphabet

is for Father Ignatius,

Born Joseph Leycester Lyne in 1837, in Barking, Essex. He died in Sheringham, Norfolk, in 1908. He set up a Benedictine Monastery in Elm Hill, Norwich and in 1864, he led a pilgrimage to Saint Walstan's Well from Norwich. Although his notoriety and controversial ideals did the legend no good, it did in a strange way, heighten the local Saint's image for a short while, but it was not to be until 1912 that major pilgrimages recommenced.
